LedsCount Mobile Application (iOS & Android)

Effective date: June 2025 · Last updated: June 2025

1. Introduction

LedsCount Electronics FZCO ("LedsCount", "we", "us", or "our") operates the LedsCount mobile application (the "App") for iOS and Android. The App serves as a Bluetooth remote control and configuration interface for LedsCount electronic scoreboards used in padel, tennis, pickleball, and beach volleyball.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights. It applies to both the iOS and Android versions of the App.

By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

3. What Data We Collect

3.1 Data You Provide Directly

We collect only the minimum data needed to operate the App. This includes:

  • Device name or nickname you assign to a scoreboard
  • Configuration settings you apply to scoreboards (sport type, scoring format, display brightness, etc.)
  • Wi-Fi credentials you optionally enter to provision a scoreboard – these are transmitted directly to the scoreboard over Bluetooth and are not stored on our servers

3.2 Data Collected Automatically

The App may collect the following technical data automatically:

  • Bluetooth device identifiers (used only locally on your phone to maintain connections; never transmitted to our servers)
  • App crash reports and diagnostic logs (if you opt in through iOS/Android crash reporting)
  • General usage analytics – anonymous, aggregated data such as which features are used and how often

3.3 Data We Do Not Collect

We do not collect:

  • Your name, email address, or any account information (the App requires no registration)
  • Your precise or approximate location
  • Camera, microphone, or photo library data
  • Contacts or calendar data
  • Payment information
  • Advertising identifiers

4. How We Use Your Data

We use the data described above solely to:

  • Operate and improve the App's core features (Bluetooth pairing, scoreboard control, firmware updates via BLE)
  • Diagnose and fix technical issues
  • Understand how the App is used in order to prioritise development

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to operating the App.

5. Bluetooth & Device Permissions

The App requires Bluetooth access to communicate with LedsCount scoreboards. On iOS, you will be asked to grant "Bluetooth" permission. On Android 12+, the App requests BLUETOOTH_SCAN and BLUETOOTH_CONNECT permissions. These permissions are used exclusively to discover and communicate with LedsCount hardware.

The App may also request access to Nearby Devices (Android) or the local network (iOS) to support Wi-Fi provisioning features. These permissions are used only to configure your scoreboard and are not used to collect data about other devices or networks.

You can revoke these permissions at any time in your device settings. Revoking Bluetooth access will prevent the App from functioning.

6. Over-the-Air (OTA) Firmware Updates

The App may deliver firmware updates to your LedsCount scoreboard over Bluetooth. To do this, the App may connect to LedsCount servers to download firmware packages. The only data transmitted during this process is the firmware file itself. Your personal data is not included in or associated with firmware downloads.

7. Data Sharing & Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for commercial purposes.

We may share limited technical data with the following categories of service providers, only to the extent necessary to operate the App:

  • Cloud infrastructure providers (for firmware hosting and update delivery)
  • Crash analytics providers (e.g. Firebase Crashlytics, if enabled)

All service providers are contractually required to handle data in accordance with applicable privacy laws and are prohibited from using your data for their own purposes.

We may also disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority.

8. Data Retention

Scoreboard configuration data is stored locally on your device and is deleted when you uninstall the App. Any crash or diagnostic data retained on our servers is kept for a maximum of 12 months and then deleted.

9. Security

All Bluetooth communication between the App and LedsCount scoreboards uses encrypted BLE characteristics. Firmware packages downloaded from our servers are verified with a checksum before installation.

While we take reasonable technical measures to protect your data, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We encourage you to keep your device OS and App updated.

10. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at info@ledscount.com and we will promptly delete it.

11. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable law, including:

  • Right of access – to request a copy of any personal data we hold about you
  • Right to erasure – to request deletion of your personal data
  • Right to rectification – to correct inaccurate data
  • Right to object – to certain processing activities
  • Right to data portability – to receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format

Because the App requires no account and collects minimal data, most requests can be satisfied by simply uninstalling the App. To exercise any right, contact us at info@ledscount.com.

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

12. Legal Basis for Processing (EEA & UK Users)

Where EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or UK GDPR applies, we process personal data on the following legal bases:

  • Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) – for crash diagnostics and anonymous usage analytics, which help us maintain and improve the App
  • Consent – where you explicitly opt in to crash reporting through your device OS settings

Our processing is limited to what is strictly necessary and does not override your fundamental rights and freedoms.

13. California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the CPRA. Because the App does not collect personal information for commercial purposes and does not sell personal data, most CCPA provisions do not apply in practice. If you have questions, please contact us at info@ledscount.com.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy and, where appropriate, by displaying a notice in the App.

Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
